Simpson Shelton Biomass Facility

"Tacoma, WA—Solomon Renewable Energy has awarded the construction of the Simpson Shelton Biomass Facility in Shelton, Washington. Partners on this project include AMEC Engineering and Harris Mechanical.
The project involves the construction of a 31 MW biomass-fired facility that will generate steam and electricity using waste wood fiber from the adjacent sawmill and plywood mill. A portion of the steam generated will be used to operate the sawmill and plywood mill, and the electricity will be sold to a local utility. The permit for this, if granted, will allow Simpson aka Solomon, to run both its old incinerator and its new incinerator at the same time. If these and ADAGE all run at the same time (that is the plan) it will be the air pollution equivalent of adding 73,000 residential fire places to our county. The 2000 census shows that 49,405 people live in mason county, that will give us 1.48 fire places for every resident of Mason County. The same census shows that there are 18,912 households in Mason County. If all three incinerators run at once we will have the pollution equivalent of 3.8 residential fire places for every household in the county. The damage to our forests and our air will be devastating. We must stop this from happening.
I have barely been able to move about down town this week because of the air; 73,000 residential fireplaces added to that should guarantee that the surplus population, and a few "collateral damage" employed worker bees, are removed from the equation.
