In Vermont they throw whole trees into the furnace.  Well after they chip them up that is.  I have pictures of the deforestation taking place in Vermont, it looks very much like the clear-cuts we have here.   For months now we have been looking at pictures of the McNeil plant with google earth but now I have pictures to share with you that were taken from the ground.  

Is this to be the future of our National Forest and DNR land?

What is it like to live on top of a biomass plant? What happens to officials in corrupt towns? What will happen to our kids who play at MCRA? What will happen to the folks in Hiawatha park?

  4. It looks like an incinerator is going in whether we like it or not. Do we get to vote on this or are the corrupt CEOs and politicians keeping us citizens out of the loop? Heres an article about plans to move forward.
    ADAGE Announces First Fuel Supply Agreement for Mason County Project with Green Diamond Resource Company
    Shelton, WA (August 13, 2010) — ADAGE, a biopower joint venture formed between AREVA and Duke Energy, today announced that it has signed its first long-term biomass fuel supply agreement for the Mason County project with Green Diamond Resource Company, which owns and manages timberland in the immediate area.

    "The sustainable long-term supply of forest biomass, which is critical to the success of our advanced biopower business, is what attracted ADAGE to Mason County," said ADAGE President Reed Wills. "By signing this agreement with Green Diamond Resource Company, we are a key step closer to delivering the jobs and renewable energy potential of forest energy in Mason County."

    Under the terms of the agreement, a portion of the total woody biomass requirements for the ADAGE Mason County facility will be filled using wood residuals left after harvest operations on Green Diamond land. Removal of material will be supervised by Green Diamond foresters to ensure compliance with Washington forest practices regulations and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard®. The company's timberlands have been independently audited to this forest certification standard since 2004.

    "Green Diamond is pleased to find a productive use for wood fiber that is currently left in the forest or burned to reduce fire hazard," said Patti Case, public affairs manager for the company. "Utilizing these residuals for power is a step forward for the renewable energy industry."

    ADAGE's proposed 55 megawatt facility symbolizes a $250 million initial investment in Mason County. The project is expected to create more than 400 direct jobs during construction and more than 100 direct jobs during permanent operation. State-of-the-art environmental controls will be installed to protect public health. This agreement follows the alliance announced earlier this year between ADAGE and John Deere to bring technology and process innovation to biomass supply.

    ADAGE has submitted its Air Resource Permit application to the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency and its State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Checklist to Mason County for review. ADAGE hopes to begin construction in early 2011.

I like how the sign says "Keeps Energy Dollars In Vermont"--in our state, the incinerator is part of an "interstate grid," which to me means that the energy "dollars" may be kept in the state, but the actual "energy" created from the burning of the state's trees goes elsewhere; probably part of the whole "smart grid" concept that we're being told is such a good thing. Take down trees in the Midwest or in Vermont to keep the lights on in New York City, e.g. ??

  6. We can stop this from coming into fruition! More people need to awaken, more people need to take action! I hope to see alot of you on the steps of our States Capitol tomorrow! We MUST protect the environment from those that would wish to rape it for sheer greed and power!

    I do not feel equal to those who would choose short term $ over my right to have a say in what happens in my community. My happiness does not include the power of a few in the poisoning of my community! My Life will not be mine if other's can control what I breathe. My Liberty is taken from me by those who with short sighted eyes only see dollar signs, without my ability or right to vote on such an issue That effects more than just the Port or city of Shelton.
