Another slideshow presentation for your horror and amusement. Simpson, Duke Energy (ADAGE) and The Evergreen State college all want to install highly polluting biomass incinerators near our home.
Your pictures of "Sheltonians", "real Sheltonians", "shelton nightlife", etc are insulting to the majority of the residents of Shelton. They only serve to reinforce the stereotypes and the stigma already associated with Shelton. You know this isn't an accurate representation & you've done better work.
I'm sorry if you're offended by the sight of poor people living in downtown Shelton. Over 80% of the children who go to school in downtown Shelton are on the free lunch program.
Have you ever photographed the lines at the food banks or watched the alley dumpsters or the area near soup kitchen?
I have a far better idea of what an accurate representation of Shelton is than most folks because I'm out there on the streets everyday photographing in.
I'm sorry if the truth is ugly. People are hurting in downtown Shelton.
I've posted plenty of pictures of rich folks now for the sake of contrast, it's time to show some pictures of the hidden majority.
How many of our fat cat bureaucrats live in the city limits? Only one that I know of.
I don't find your photos the least bit "insulting". They are, however, provocative, which, I assume, is your intent. Arguably, one of the reasons Shelton finds itself in the current battle over biomass is rooted in a reluctance to view our community from another person's perspective, with values and priorities different from our own. Toward that end, I applaud your efforts, and encourage you to continue putting pictures to verse. Nothing is quite as powerful.
