Building a Prison Economy in Shelton (alleged neo-Nazi activity in current prison)

Detrimental effects on the social fabric and environment of rural communities

Dude from Alabama came to steal a $60 bike, but
he ran away when he saw the camera.  What brought
him  to Shelton?  Does he have a relative in the Shelton prison?
" Increasing evidence suggests that by many measures prisons do not produce economic growth for local economies and can, over the long term, have detrimental effects on the social fabric and environment of rural communities."

So why is our county itching to have a second prison?

"Despite the prevailing wisdom regarding prisons as economic panaceas, evidence suggests that prison boosters in rural America should be careful what they wish for."

From the same article:

"A similar lawsuit filed in 1999 by black employees of Washington Correctional Center in Shelton, also included complaints about organized neo-Nazi activities including "Heil Hitler" salutes among some white officers and distribution of hate literature inside the prison."    Read More

"Perhaps no state prison is in worse shape than Shelton. Black workers say they're subjected to racial slurs and white supremacist activity at work, including Heil Hitler salutes in the hallways and the distribution of hate literature. White officers claim "reverse discrimination"--that management favors minorities. The situation came to a boil a few years ago when two black employees, Sgt. Clan Jacobs and Lt. Waller, a plaintiff in the case filed against Shelton, were blamed for creating a list of 11 white employees said to belong to, or have knowledge about, hate groups."  Read More

Alabama man came back careful to walk behind the camera on the way in and out
only to discover that the bicycle was locked.  But that did not deter him, he simply returned with
wire cutters. When the wire cutters failed he walked out right in front of the camera.
(Dude must not have seen the second camera on the lamp post)

So he came back for another look the next day and decided to try to steal a tire off the
bike, and failed because his screwdriver broke.  But here is a hint:
If you're going to return to the crime scene,
don't wear the same outfit!
