UK's Durham Crematorium May Sell Body Heat To Great Britain's National Grid

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/28/durham-crematorium-turbine-energy_n_1116660.html

Bringing new meaning to the term "body heat," a UK crematorium is hoping to make some extra cash by selling energy produced during the cremation process.

If all goes as planned, the Durham Crematorium will install turbines in two of its burners and sell the excess energy to Great Britain's National Grid, The Telegraph reports.

A third burner will continue to warm the site's chapel and offices.

Engineers estimate that each turbine can generate 250 kilowatt-hours, enough electricity to power 1,500 televisions, according to The Daily Mail.

Schneider Electric dismisses biomass lawsuit against Vancouver

Schneider Electric dismisses biomass lawsuit against Vancouver
November 23, 2011, 12:21 AM
http://www.oregonlive.com/clark-county/index.ssf/2011/11/schneider_electric_dismisses_b.html

Following Schneider Electric's decision to terminate partnership with Clark County in the proposed biomass plant project, the Seattle-based company is dismissing the lawsuit filed against the city of Vancouver, Steve Horenstein, the company's attorney said.

The main driver of the lawsuit is a six-month moratorium on the development of the downtown zone, where the biomass plant was supposed to be built. The moratorium, which the Vancouver City Council members unanimously approved in mid-October, essentially halted the biomass project and prevented Schneider Electric from availing an $8 million grant that expires at the end of the year.

It's gonna rain!

Pepper Spray Cop won't let salmon migrate?

Yeeeeehaaaaaw!  It's time to flush all the turds out of the Skokomish River Valley!  Over the years I have found that the U of W always underpredicts the actual flood level.  Cliff Mass is calling for 5-10 inches of rain in the next 48 hours. http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/  I hope we break the 2007 record, and why not? There's a load of fresh snow in low in the Olympics.  Can you say "rain on snow event"?   BRING IT ON MOTHER NATURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's gonna rain

Rain cleans the air

Another biomass plan bites the dust.

Schneider Electric has announced it is terminating partnership with Clark County to build and operate a biomass plant in downtown Vancouver.

According to a letter the Seattle-based company sent to the Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 18, Schneider Electric decided to end the project because it lost its "ability to apply for the U.S. Department of Treasury grant due to the actions of the City of Vancouver..."

Union Busting in Kitsap County

The Kitsap County Commissioners have decided to outsource janitorial services to an independent contractor.  Currently the janitors are in the AFSCME  union.   The independent contractor will save Kitsap County money by not using union labor and by paying close to the minimum wage.  Currently a top tier union janitor at the Kitsap County Courthouse makes $18.00 per hour plus benefits.    The current janitors have been told they will be first in line for these wonderful new jobs that will pay about half what they currently make and will probably not come with benefits.

This is an outrage.  I can't believe that the union is planning on negotiating a severance package.  The union SHOULD be calling for a general strike at the Kistap County Courthouse. If it can happen to the janitors it can happen to EVERY employee at that courthouse.  Wake up folks!  They are already starting to outsource the auditors work just like we already do in Mason County.

I have a couple of personal reasons to be outraged by this.  My Grandma brought this union to Kitsap County.  I'm so proud of her!  (Yes my Grandma, god bless her; she passed away shortly after I was exiled to Shelton.)  By bringing in the union my Grandma helped to make a good life for herself and everyone esle who worked for Kitsap County at the end of world war II.  She was a republican daughter of a republican state senator and she was pro-union.

I also currently have two relatives who work for Kitsap County and one of them is about to lose his job and maybe even his house thanks to the union busting activities of the Kitsap County Commissioners.   Crossing my fingers and hoping his re-fi goes through before he loses his job.

I hope the union will get off its ass and do way more than just cross their fingers and negotiate a severance package.  An injury to one is an injury to all!

Have Fun

Send in anything you make out of this maybe we will post it here

I only made it this far because I'm way too busy studying for finals.

What does Atlas Pellet burn? -Johns Prairie Road Shelton

Lucky for us they're not a major source of pollution, according to ORCAA:

That's more than just hot air

What does Atlas Pellet burn?  Do they use natural gas, electricity or wood scraps?  They make pellets for wood stoves but they need energy to dry the pellets with.

Shelton police want to know "Has anyone seen a one-armed man with a chain saw?"

Yes, that is the question that city police were asking students who were waiting in line to catch their bus to school at both 11th and Railroad and 10th and Franklin yesterday morning.  This only in Shelton type of moment  proves to us once again that Shelton is a very special place to live.

I better check my deer cam!

Occupy Olympia - "Our tents send a message of solidarity"

This is a copy of the letter that was hand delivered to the office of the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services, 1500 Jefferson St. at 4:50pm on November 13, 2011.

November 13, 2011
Joyce Turner
Director, Department of Enterprise Services
Olympia, WA 98501

Dear Ms. Turner,

We are Occupy Olympia. We are peaceful people, and we love this land. We care enough to take critical action on behalf of 99 percent of our citizenry.

We appreciate the fact that the Department of Enterprise Services wishes to, and is willing to accommodate our freedom of speech interests. It is critical that this protection be honored.

The tents in Heritage Park make a statement for the entire world to see. The tents are our core free speech message. We are occupying with great visibility to get this message across with simplicity. Many of us are guided by the spirit of Mahatma Ghandi and Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. in our peaceful protest, exercising our First Amendment rights.

Through the visibility of our tents, we send the message that the 99 percent will not be ignored. We are working people, we are the unemployed. We are homeowners. We are the homeless, the poor, veterans and the disabled. Most of all, we are the people, and we stand united. We are people who are taking action against apathy and standing up for what is right in the name of social justice.

We will continue to work with you to protect these free speech interests represented by our tents, and stand with you in standing up against the greedy destruction caused by the few.

Our tents send a message of solidarity and symbolize this message in a very strong visual manner.

Yours Truly,

Occupy Olympia

More mushrooms than Ranger Davis could stomp in a lifetime

A Brinnon man is arrested for stealing trees, while Simpson CEO's run amok

A Brinnon man is arrested for stealing trees, some that had stood for nearly 300 years, from the Olympic National Forest.

Those trees, according to assistant U.S. attorney Matthew Diggs, can bring in big money. Reid Johnston is accused of wanting to cash in.

"Some of them are big leaf maple trees, that can sell for $5,000 or more," Diggs says. "The Douglas Fir tree, Mr. Johnston had hoped to sell that for close to $20,000."

Diggs says the wood from those trees is often used to make cellos and guitars.

Johnston faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Unhealthy air for elderly, children and folks with heart or lung disease for half of the last 24 hours

Thursday, November 10, 2011

For over half of the last 24 hours the air has been hazardous for children to breathe

For over half of the last 24 hours the air in downtown Shelton has not been safe for "sensitive groups" to breathe.  Sensitive groups include our children and our elderly and our loved ones with chronic diseases.  Children, elderly and people with pre-existing heart and lung conditions such as asthma and emphysema should avoid outdoor activity, remain indoors with windows and doors closed, avoid excessive exertion, and avoid exposure to tobacco smoke or other respiratory irritants.
