| The homes and trees are gone and now the lot is converted to a construction site for the entire summer |
In the summer of 2007 the city of Shelton decided to used my back yard as a staging area for sewer construction. Dust, noise and horrible smells continued all summer long. We could not go out into our back yard due to the dust and noise.
My garden was new that year, was it safe to eat my crops? What was in the old houses the city tore down? Was it asbestos? Hey they were the city, they did not need a demolition permit, they did as they pleased, they parked heavy construction equipment and ran dump trucks all day long in a residential neighborhood. Some days they kept up the noise until midnight, dumping load after load of road debris just a few feet from our back door and then hauling it off.
The city tore down two houses. One of the houses was 97 years old. It it were still standing it would have protection as a historical building. The city also tore down several large maple trees and several old fruit trees. It was my daughters "nature preserve".
The entire summer was ruined and my daughter's heart was broken. My husband who worked nights was unable to sleep. The lot is for sale now, we are expecting a fast food drive through or something equally as horrible for our new neighbor.
